Kristel Acevedo — Finding Faith in the Wilderness

In a world often divided and chaotic, finding peace and purpose can feel like a daunting task. In this episode of Peacemakers, host Yonathan Moya sits down with Kristel Acevedo, Spiritual Formation Director at Transformation Church, to explore her journey of faith and the transformative power of community. Kristel's story is one of resilience, identity, and a deep connection to God, even in the most desolate places.

Kristel’s journey began in the vibrant, multicultural city of Miami, where she grew up in an immigrant family from Nicaragua. Her early experiences in a diverse community shaped her understanding of identity and faith. "I feel like I'm a little bit from everywhere," Kristel shares, reflecting on how her interactions and relationships have influenced her spiritual path.

Despite a strong Catholic foundation, Kristel's true spiritual awakening came later in life. A friend's persistent invitation to a youth group opened her eyes to the concept of grace and belonging. This newfound faith led her to seminary and eventually to her role at Transformation Church, where she helps others discover their own paths to God.

Kristel emphasizes the importance of community in spiritual formation. "You need other people, you need community, you need familia," she explains. Her work at Transformation Church focuses on creating a multi-ethnic, multi-generational community where individuals can grow together in faith and love.

Kristel’s story is a testament to the power of faith, identity, and community. Her journey reminds us that even in the wilderness, we are never alone. By embracing our unique paths and connecting with others, we can find peace and purpose in a divided world.
